Wind Power to light the super bowl

January20

Great article I found about how they are going to use Wind Energy to Power the Super Bowl. Great info to use in your debate

Salt River Project will light the Feb. 1 Super Bowl in metro Phoenix with electricity from wind power.

The municipal utility announced the energy sponsorship Tuesday, although the board of directors approved the deal in 2013 as part of a $1 million sponsorship of the Super Bowl Host Committee, a non-profit liaison between the league and the host region.

The power to the Super Bowl originally was estimated to cost about $200,000, but SRP spokeswoman Patty Garcia Likens said Tuesday the cost now is expected to be about $50,000 for the electricity, services to the stadium and renewable-energy credits.

SRP will provide $500,000 cash, $450,000 of in-kind services and $50,000 for electric energy, the related services and renewable energy credits for University of Phoenix game-day related period, a company representative said Tuesday. Originally, the utility was to provide $225,000 cash.

The sponsorship sparked a controversy two years ago over whether the non-profit utility should help support the game.

“We believe it is the right thing to do for a community member like SRP,” General Manager Mark Bonsall said at the time.

SRP officials said the true cost of the sponsorship was much less than $1 million because much

The influx of people visiting Arizona for the game is estimated to increase electricity sales for SRP that week by roughly $300,000, Bonsall said at the time the deal was approved, making the sponsorship almost a wash.

SRP, meanwhile, has been locked in a fierce debate over renewable energy. A proposal to charge higher rates to customers who install solar on their homes has drawn hundreds of people to public hearings in protest. The plan will be considered by the utility’s board in late February.

Managers at the utility contend that it is more cost-effective to build large solar power plants and allow customers to purchase a block of electricity from the facility.

Customers and rooftop-solar installers contend that such an arrangement does not give customers the same opportunity to cut their own electric bills by installing solar and generating much of their own electricity.

Project Due Date Change

December3

Hello parents and students,

We have to change to due date for the project, we will have not have time to present projects before the semester ends so the projects will be due the week we get back from the break. Also, students will not have to write the one page paper. Here is in the info the project and the changes that were made

What are we doing?
You are going to create an environment and the organisms that live there. The environment needs to fit the needs of the creatures you create. You will make up a place and the animals that we could find there. (So you are not using animals that we know, you get to make up your own)

Purpose: To create an environment (like a dessert, tundra, rain forest, grassland, pond, lake, etc) that will accommodate the needs of the organisms that live there. The ecosystem will need Biotic and Abiotic organisms. (living and non-living)

MUST HAVES:
Two multicellular organisms
– List their characteristics- Eukaryotic, Prokaryotic (nucleus or no nucleus), Autotroph, Heterotroph (describe what they eat), sexual, asexual (how do they reproduce).
One unicellular organisms
-List their characteristics- Eukaryotic, Prokaryotic, Autotroph, Heterotroph (describe what they eat), sexual, asexual.
Have captions explaining the 4 characteristics- (energy, reproduction, cells, nucleus)
CREATE – (choose one) poster, powerpoint, movie, play, 3D model, etc. To display you ecosystem create a display to present to the class.
** All projects must follow Rubric.

DUE- January 7th
Presentations will be January 7-9th

Welcome to 6th Grade Science

August22

Hello Parents and Students,

I am very excited to start the new school and year and get to know all of my new 6th graders. I know moving up to a new school can be a little intimidating, but we will get through it together. If you ever have any questions about anything, please do not hesitate to ask!

A little about me.
This is my third year teaching science here at White oak. I come from a family of science teachers, so my love of science started very early in life. I graduated from Texas Tech in the spring of 2012 , Wreck ‘Em! 🙂 I am currently the girls 8th grade volleyball, basketball, and track coach. The last two years I have been the 7th grade girls coach. I am ready to get year 3 started and see what surprises it holds for us.

School supplies for my class.
Students will need:
1 Mead Composition book
Girls will need to bring 1-2 glue sticks
Boys will need to bring a package of markers
everyone needs a 1 inch binder. (If you are using one of the big zip binders, you are welcome to use that as long as there is a science section with 5 dividers)
– 5 dividers
Clorox Wipes (this is optional)

If your Bring your school supplies for my class on the first day you will get a 10Pt coupon. If you bring them the second day you will get a 5pt coupon.

Science and social studies are block glasses so you will have them every other day. If your schedule says “science” first you will go there Monday and Social Studies on Tuesday. If yours say “Social studies” first you will go there Monday and Science on Tuesday.

Please let me know if you have any questions
